Children's Museum and Baseball Game

A few weeks ago a lady at work offered up free baseball tickets to staff and students. (She got them through the Optimists Club.) After speaking with Trav we decided we would give the game a shot with Ry. It would be his first baseball game and since the tickets were free it would be ok if we left early. Now PNC Park (Pittsburgh Pirates) is the most beautiful stadium with a gorgeous view of the river. As game day approached we wondered what we would do about parking. We ALWAYS park at the casino anytime we go to the North Shore (casino, football and baseball stadium, fireworks, etc). Casino parking is free....unless there is a game. Well due to the game today we would have to pay $25 to park at the casino or park elsewhere. Elsewhere it was! However, anywhere by the stadiums was sure to cost us between $15-$30! I wasn't about to spend that kind of money. Well the lights went off and Trav had the great idea to park at the Children's Museum which is only .4 miles from the baseball stadium. We had a pass to park free at the museum and figured since we are members we'd let Ry play there before the game. Well it worked out wonderfully and the walk was easy! Ry only lasted 4 innings because it was during his nap, but we will try again next season.

New Friend

Today Ryan's prschool class walked next door to the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. As I've mentioned he's been practicing his sign language in sing language class at school. His class started their buddy program. Once a month they will spend time with their new friends. Today they learned each other's name, painted a picture fram, had a snack, made a tree and played.

Ry said his new friend TayVon is very nice.

Science Center

On Sunday we visited the Carnegie Science Center because it was a free day. This was our first time to the Science Center. We had a lot of fun exploring the different areas. Some of it was too advanced for him. He loved the robot area the best. After the Science Center we explored a submarine on the river.

Apple Picking

Yesterday we took Ryan apple picking. Not only was it his first time, but it was also ours. He's been talking about fall and apples, so why not! We drove to a nice little farm about 40 minutes away called Simmon's Farm. While driving there Trav asked if I would make an apple pie. Now I don't like apple pie, but I figured sure why not. So that determined which type of apples we'd pick. The lady at the farm told me jonagold would be good for a pie. We walked to the orchard behind the main building and picked about 30 apples. Ry loved it! We then walked over to wear the pumpkins were growing and let Ry look around for a while. As we headed back to the main shop we stopped at their petting zoo. They had goats (and babies), rabbits, roosters, chicken, sheep and ducks. Ry seemed to enjoy himself a lot.

Oh and the apple pie turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

I'll upload pictures this week. I left my camera cord at work.

Sign Language

I will say that Travis and I tried to teach Ry sign language when he was a baby/early toddler. He did fairly well with a hanful of simple signs. Well Ry's preschool is adjacent to the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. They do a lot of cooperative programs. Now that Ry is in the preschool room he will be paired up with a buddy from the school. They will meet weekly and do various activities. He is very excited and is hoping his buddy is a boy.

Today I got a list of Ry's specials for each day.

Monday- Music Class
Tuesday- Library
Wednesday- Sign Language
Thursday- Stretch n Grow
Friday- Dance Class

They bring in teachers for each of the classes. His favorite right now is Music Class with Ms. Nevada.

He loves to teach us.

Consignment Shopping

I took Ry today to the Snugglebugs Consignment Sale. It's a large local consignment sale held twice a year just before the seasonal changes. I had hoped to find winter snowboots and snow pants as well as a Halloween outfit. Nearly 2 hours after we had arrived, we walked out with 20 items including a $3 Scooby Doo Halloween costume, $5 Buzz Lightyear rolling luggage, a $4 set of mini drums, winter coat, pj's, felt food set, winter vest, courduroy pants, and 14 winter shirts.

So we will still be on the look out for snow pants and boots as well as tracks for his Thomas trains.

In the meantime enjoy the drums video!!

Busy, Busy, Busy

It's been a busy past month all with school starting! We had a wonderful vacation to visit Trav's family at the beach. Ry has moved to the preschool classroom at school. My school year started. I have a great class although it's been a transition to be in a new space seperate from the school. We tried to put Ry in karate but it didn't go to well. Ry is becoming such a big boy!
