Movie Night

Last week's movie night was Lilo & Stitch. It was my mom's choice since she was visiting. It was ok.

Tonight was movie night. I chose Dumbo. I didn't remember the movie from my childhood, but I like elephants and Ry likes hefalumps. I couldn't believe how "old school" the movie was with storks delivering babies and the elephants being beaten. At one point they even changed the color of the elephants eyes to make them look more mean. At times I just wasn't comfortable watching it.

Next week we'll be at the beach, so there will be no movie night.

Parents Visit

My parents recently visited on the 2nd leg of their road trip. They drove from Florida, stopping overnight in SC, only to drive on to Virginia to visit friends. After leaving Virginia they drove to our house where we spent 5 days together.

My parents arrived Friday night where we munched on pizza and had fun. Saturday we took my parents to the Strip District which is a wonderful market area. Later that evening we headed out to the ballpark where we were hoping to catch a Pirates game, however, it was sold out. Instead we ate a nice dinner and walked around by the river. It was so late that we decided to stick around and wait for the fireworks. Well the game went late and the fireworks didn't start till around 10pm. Miraculously Ry stayed awake and LOVED the fireworks! On Sunday we visited the zoo and then took my parents to Primanti's, a Pittsburgh tradition, for lunch. It was their first visit and by the looks of their clean baskets, they enjoyed it! On Monday we went to story hour at the library and then visited a train store for my dad. Tuesday we went to a free film at the theater. Every Tuesday our local theater has free kids films at 10am. It was crowded with lots of summer camp kids, but the movie (Planet 51) was cute and Ry enjoyed his popcorn. After that Ryan changed into his swimsuit and played in the fountain. We then had lunch and returned home.

We had a wonderful time with my parents and look forward to their next visit in October.

Michigan

We recently took a trip to visit my brother and his family in Michigan. We made the 7 hour drive over the July 4th weekend. Ryan behaved pretty well in the car thanks to dvds!

We had a wonderful time with Chris, Mindi, and little Kayla & Leah. We played outside a lot in their wonderful backyard, as well as front yard and taking walks. We visited Dutch Wonderland. Ry loved the little animals, slides, train, carousel and swing ride. It was lots of fun! One evening after dinner we went to a little private are of Lake Michigan. It's just like a beach, only a lake! Ry loved it and so did Trav. Water without salt! I thought Ryan would love the sand but all he wanted to do was go in the water with Travis. We spent the 4th grilling, eating red, white, and blue ice cream and playing with sparklers. On our last day we visited a blueberry farm. I bought 5lbs of blueberries and have eaten them all! They were so good:)

It was a great trip to Michigan. Ryan had lots of fun as did we. We look forward to our next meet up with them!

Movie Night

Most every Friday night for about the past 6 months or so has been movie night at our house. We watch a children's movie, everything from old classics to recently released movies. We've seen 101 Dalmations, all the Toy Story movies, Lion King, Princess & the Frog, Up.....and the list goes on.

Ryan has always loved Winnie the Pooh and Friends. Recently he has been hung up on reading a story about Pooh having bad dreams about a heffalump. While at the library this week for story hour I happened to notice a heffalump movie.

So tonight's movie selection was Pooh's Heffalump Movie. He loved it and afterwards he told me he wanted a pet heffalump!
